it's a game, point blank period. and think about the fact that there HAVE BEEN GAY GANGSTERS IN REAL LIFE, it's not purposefully depicting certain races and types of people as gangsters, because every type of person has been a gangster in this messed up world of ours, and that doesn't mean that that certain race or lifestyle type promotes violence and drugs. if noone wants to be depicted as something that they're not, then they can have lots of fun getting everyone that looks, acts, talks, and is the same race as them to not do anything wrong so that the lawsuits can actually make some kind of sense. it's entertainment people!

The claim that Rockstar will show homosexual characters and lifestyles in a 'stereotypical and negative light' is not true if its past output is anything to go by. They did no such thing for Niko and his Eastern brethren, nor did they do the same for Johnny and The Lost Motorcycle Club.

There are plenty of examples of films and television programmes that focus on gay characters and have similar themes, so why can't video games? Just because a game has the word 'Gay' in the title doesn't mean it's not going to treat its subject matter with respect. It's just the usual outcry against videogames and the progress they are making.

Of course if the lead designer happened to be gay, then everyone would say it was a triumph of civil justice. Maybe it won't be a stereotype necessarily. May be gay Tony will be bad ass. I could see that.

If you knew anything about the grand theft auto series you'd understand the irony behind its stereotyping. It ceases to be offensive when the joke is told by a group of people who are from the same minority. An example of such is Larry David telling a joke about jewish people; society deems it funny as Larry David is a Jew. The harsh thing surrounding this game is the very fact that the world we live in is not ready (and probably never will be) for computer gaming to become an art form as comedy is considered today. Ignorant and ill informed articles such as the one above, only add fuel to this flame.

I think your concern is a bit eager. We'll see how much bigotry and stereotyping is in the game and how it's handled once it's released. I'm going to assume that Rockstar is not looking to harm the GLBT community with this release.

If anything, I hope it raises awareness, though there are a lot of dumb-ass, bigot kids that will play this and no doubt crack “gay jokes”.
