Yeah, it would be nice to have a standardized system for the game developer's benefit, but at the same time, isn't a review based solely on opinion? No matter how hard someone tries to be unbiased, there's always going to be favoritism thrown into play.

From personal experience, I was never a fan of the Final Fantasy series because the character development was classic easterner "I'm a roaming badass and I should have no emotion aside for repressed love for the female lead" mentality, along with overdrawn gameplay and overall sloppy feel. However, it's known as one of the most popular and highly rated RPG series of all time. Do I agree with the fanboys? No, but I do recognize they make good points.

My own point being that there are tons of gamers just like me who do look at reviews for advice on whether or not I should invest in a game. Although I suppose GameFly is the solution to that. :P

Thanks for listening, but just to further clarify some of your ponits. I was getting to the fact that people are discrediting Cross-Edge as a game because the graphics are extremely sub-par. I happen to like JRPGs... However, that still doesn't change the fact that the game deserves around a 7 rather than the 5's that it is receiving.

How am I a fanboy again, just because I like a genre of games?

By your own rules as stated earlier in the podcast, because you say that most critics gave Cross-Edge about a 5, and you LOVED it, you're obviously a fanboy and we should ignore you because you're a fanboy. Actually, I quite disagree with you there and think we SHOULD pay attention to you. Don't you get it?? We don't need a standardized scale for all critics. So long as each critic has integrity with his/her own scale, sites like Metacritic work. A tough grader that grades a representative sample of games will be tough on everyone. An easy grader will be easy on everyone. And the Metacritic score will work out. You don't have to be a math professor to understand that.
